The Venturi Formula-E Team has confirmed that their relationship with Jacques Villeneuve has ended after a difficult start to the 2015-16 FIA Formula-E Championship season. Toyota factory driver and FIA World Endurance Championship regular, Mike Conway, will join the team starting in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The open wheel veteran Conway said, “Venturi is a top team in Formula-E so it’s great to be able to join. The series is innovative and quite unique. It is quickly growing momentum and it’s attractive to a lot of manufacturers to showcase their technologies, so it’s exciting to be a part of the series.”
I am excited to hear that Mike Conway is returning to an open wheel racing series. He has many years of IndyCar experience, so he should fit in well with the Venturi Formula-E Team. It would be cool to see Conway return to the Verizon IndyCar Series for a few races (not conflicting with full-time FIA World Endurance Championship duties with Toyota), but Formula-E is the next best thing!
Honestly, I am not surprised that Villeneuve was let go, after a very challenging debut season for him in Formula-E. It was time for driver and team to move onto a brighter future. Where could we see Jacques Villeneuve race next: rallying, NASCAR road courses, the Indy 500? The possibilities are endless!
