Mazda Motorsports confirmed their driver lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Long-time Mazda driver, Ben Devlin and Mazda Development driver, Spencer Pigot will join the “typical drivers” for the Rolex 24.

Pigot will drive the Number 55 Mazda Prototype along with Jonathan Bomarito and Tristian Nunez. Devlin returns to the team as he will pilot the Number 70 Mazda Prototype with Joel Miller and Tom Long.

I am extremely excited to see the Mazda LMP2 car race this season! They will no longer race the diesel engine as they have switched to a gasoline powered turbo motor. The name of this engine will be released at a later date.

Hopefully, the team will be able to compete for overall victories this season and give the Daytona Prototypes a mighty challenge. They definitely have the drivers to get the job done! Based on speculation, it appears that the new Mazda Prototype has the speed to be competitive, but there is one huge question mark surrounding their program. Will the car be reliable? I am sure that question will be answered throughout the season as they will run two full-time entries in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

It is great to see Bomarito, Nunez, Miller, and Long return to Mazda. They will have breakout seasons if the rumors are true about the turbo motor’s potential. All four drivers are quick and will definitely lay down some fast lap times if the engine and chassis perform accordingly. Adding Pigot and Devlin to the lineup was a smart decision. Devlin has experience with the team as a veteran while Pigot has tremendous upside. It will be interesting to see how Pigot transitions from open wheel racing to sportscar racing.
